Are You Good Enough?

“Being good enough” is the most important question that you have to answer. There are a few things you should know before you answer it though.

  1. The answer today can change tomorrow.
  2. It’s all relative.
  3. Being good enough isn’t always enough.
  4. It’s not as simple as yes or no.

The answer today can change tomorrow.

It doesn’t matter how you answer that question today, that answer can change tomorrow.  Maybe you’re not good enough yet, but you can always improve. Just because you’re good enough today, doesn’t mean that someone else isn’t trying to pass you by or that you can’t get worse. You can be confident in your daily efforts to be your best, but you can’t let not being good enough today get you down or that being good enough make you comfortable. If you were the best version of yourself today, and you’re going to do what it takes to repeat that everyday, then that’s all you can do.

It’s all relative.

Are you good enough to play at a Top 10 NCAA D1 school?  Are you good enough to play at the worst NCAA D1 school?  You might be good enough to play at the worst NCAA D1 school, but not good enough to play at a top NCAA D2 school. Being good enough depends on a lot of things outside of your control. It’s all relative to what you’re comparing it to and what you’re looking for. What is important to you? Everyone wants different things, but it’s harder to be an All American at a top D1 school than it is a D2 school. There aren’t many teams that win national championships every year.

Being good enough isn’t always enough.

You know your favorite school.  You go to their summer camp and you’re the best player there. You’re even better than some of the players on their team. The problem is they already have 4 people at your position on their roster.  They don’t have room for you.  Or maybe they have a roster spot, but your grades aren’t what they need to be.  Trust me, if you’re not good enough the other stuff doesn’t matter.  However, even if you are good enough, you have to have the other stuff too.

It’s not as simple as yes or no.

As you can see, the answer to the question isn’t just a yes or no. We’ll be happy to evaluate your game.  Regardless, our next lesson will ask you questions that will help you answer this question. The answers to these questions in addition to our film evaluations will help you determine, if you’re good enough for what you want. Remember though, no matter if the answer to the question is yes or no right now, it’s all about timing. You have to be good enough when it matters.  You have to show that you’re good enough when coaches are evaluating you. Whether that’s in your video, or in a live setting, you have to be prepared to show that you’re good enough every day.
