Make Things Happen Yourself

Let’s be real. Most of you aren’t doing what you could or should be doing to make things happen for yourself.  You think you are, but really you’re waiting on your mom, dad, coach, trainer, handler, recruiting service, or somebody else to do it for you.  You really are just dreaming. You’re not really serious about your dream.

So, yes, it’s perfecting your skills through countless hours in the gym or in the garage. It’s waking up early to put in work and then not being able to sleep at night because you have this feeling that someone else is working harder than you. It’s being disciplined in everything that you do because you are so consumed with “making it” that you can’t see anything else. But recruiting is marketing.  It’s hard to market a bad product.  But even great products need marketing.

And for sure, it’s definitely not just sitting back and HOPING something will happen. Because for sure, something will happen and chances are, it probably won’t be good. You only get a limited amount of opportunities and there is so much of life that you can’t control. You don’t get a second chance at this. Why would you let something you can control, slip through your fingers?

Real Life Stories

So what? Those are all words you’ve heard before. But let’s really look at this from a different perspective. I want you to look at some every day things you put time into.

  1. Getting dressed; you don’t just randomly reach in your closet and pull out clothes to wear. Usually there is thought put into that. Unless you are like 5 years old you’re not going to let your mom dress you, are you?
  2. Taking Selfies. How hard is taking a selfie? You don’t just point the camera at yourself and snap and post. You have to make sure you have the right filters, lighting, angles, blah blah blah. And, don’t let someone else post a picture of your before you see it.

These might be funny, but true examples of how we spend our time and the effort we put into these things. And, honestly I think it’s great we care about our brand by our outfits and the pictures we post; there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The Problem

Here’s where my problem comes in; if you are willing to work so hard at making sure your “image” is on point why in the heck aren’t you doing the same on making your dreams of playing college basketball come true?

Why do you let your mom/dad, brother, uncle, AAU coach, high school coach, trainer, “recruiting service” (the WORST) market you? They don’t know you, and even if they do, they aren’t the ones that get to go play college basketball! You are the one who is going to wake-up at 5:00am and go to workouts. You are the one who will get cursed out by a coach. They aren’t the ones dealing with those teammates who won’t work hard. They aren’t the ones taking exams and graduating with a degree. You are the one that will have to win or lose all of those games. It’s NOT their process. It’s NOT their dream (if it is you have even bigger problems).

So, I say to you. WAKE UP!!! Take control of the process. LEARN how to do it and then DO IT YOURSELF! It’s absurd to me that someone would allow someone else to do the work, or choose for them in the most important step of their process. Yet, you’ll put more time into things like selfies and picking out your clothes instead of knowing yourself, learning what you want in your next step and then doing everything you can to go get it.

The Solution

At Hoops College, we are providing you an education on how to get recruited. We don’t want to do the work for you; we want to ask you questions, make you think and then teach you how the answers to those questions will impact where you choose to go to college. We are here to help you; we are here to teach you; we are here to be a guide; we are here to make sure you reach your dreams. We are here to help you come up with your own plan. We know what works and what doesn’t because we’ve watched so many players do it wrong and only a few do it right.

So, it’s up to you to reach out! And, let’s be real one more time. How crazy is this? You have access to SOMEONE (A REAL PERSON) who is willing to help you climb to the top, be honest with you, help you grow, help you take control of your future, AND HAS BEEN WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, but you won’t take that step?

We can’t help you if you’re not willing to make things happen for yourself! So, I’m calling you out. Let us help you chase your dreams. We can help you come up with a process to make them into a reality!!!
